Walks near the cottage

The riverside in Chepstow

It's about a 15-minute walk from the cottage, through the park by Chepstow Castle, to the River Wye and the path along the bank. It's a good first walk after the journey, and a pleasant way to start the morning. If you're lucky, you may even see Sammy the Seal.

Wye Valley and Offa's Dyke

The Wye Valley Walk is about 20 minutes on foot from the cottage, and Offa's Dyke Path starts close to Chepstow too, so it makes an easy base for a day on either one. Tintern Abbey and the valley's woodland tracks are a short drive away.

Local woods

St Pierre Great Wood and Barnett's Wood both have lovely forest walks close to Chepstow, a good option for a longer woodland ramble with your dog.

The Forest of Dean

Across the border, the Forest of Dean has miles of woodland trails, plus attractions like Puzzlewood. It makes a change of scenery for a longer day out with your dog.

A home for people and dogs

Vauxhall Cottage was our family home for 25 years, and our dog's doorstep too. When we began welcoming guests, we kept it dog-friendly. The garden is the heart of the cottage in summer, and the log burner is the heart of it in winter.

“We especially enjoyed sitting in the garden and listening to the different bird sounds.”

A family and their dog

With 4 bedrooms and room for 7, it works for a couple with a spaniel, a family with a Labrador, or a group of friends who'd like the dogs to come too. See where everyone sleeps.
