Is Vauxhall Cottage dog-friendly?
Yes. Up to 3 dogs are welcome, with no charge for dogs when you book direct. We provide a dog bowl, a blanket and some treats, there is a medium-sized crate owners can use, and the private garden is fully fenced and secure. Dogs are not allowed upstairs, and there is a stairgate if you need one. Assistance animals are always welcome.
How many people does the cottage sleep?
Up to 7 guests in 4 bedrooms, with 4 or 5 beds. There is an en-suite shower room, a family bathroom and a downstairs loo.
Is it suitable for families with young children?
Yes. We provide a cot, a travel cot, a highchair with straps and tray and baby safety gates, and there is a fenced private garden and a cupboard full of board games.
Is it suitable for guests with limited mobility?
The cottage is not step-free. There are steps from the carport down into the garden, and steps again down into the house. All four bedrooms are upstairs, the staircase is narrower and steeper than in a modern house, and some doorways are low, as you would expect in an 1790s building. There is also a climb back up the hill from the town centre. If you have mobility needs, message us and we will tell you exactly what to expect.
What time are check-in and check-out?
Check-in is from 4pm and check-out is by 10am. Check-in is self-service with a lockbox, and we live nearby if you need us. If you are leaving on a Sunday, we are usually able to offer an extended check-out until 4:30pm for an additional one-off payment of £50, or you can add the Sunday night for £100. Both are by personal arrangement, so just message us.
What is the minimum and maximum stay?
The minimum stay varies by season, but it is never fewer than 2 nights, because of the fixed costs of running a large property. The maximum stay is 28 nights. The booking form has fixed rules, but we make them, so if you have a stay in mind that the form doesn't offer, please message us and we'll be happy to try to help.
How much does it cost?
Prices vary with the dates and are calculated dynamically. Booking direct, prices start from £199 per night for 2 guests, with an additional £10 per night for each extra guest. Choose your dates in the booking box to see the exact price.

Is there parking?
Yes. The covered carport at the top of the garden takes 2 cars or vans, with space for a third parked sideways. There is also some limited on-street parking nearby.
How far is it to the town, the castle and the river?
Chepstow town centre is a short stroll away, with shops, pubs and restaurants, and Marks and Spencer's Food Hall is close by. The riverbank is about a 15-minute walk through the park by Chepstow Castle, and the Wye Valley Walk is about 20 minutes on foot.
How do I get to the cottage without a car?
Chepstow railway station is a 15 to 20-minute walk, with direct trains to Newport, Cardiff, Cheltenham and Gloucester, and connections to Bristol, Bath and London. The bus and coach station is a couple of minutes' walk away, with coaches to London, Cardiff and Swansea.
How do I get there by car?
The cottage is on the right side of Chepstow for the Severn Bridge and the M48, M4 and M5, so Cardiff, Bristol and the rest of South Wales and the West are easy to reach.
Can I work from the cottage?
Yes. There is a private study with a large desk, in a room with a door, and fast wifi that has been verified at 62 Mbps by a speed test.
Is it a good base for race days, shows and weddings?
Yes. Vauxhall Cottage is well placed for Chepstow Racecourse, which is a 25-minute walk away, and the David Broome Event Centre and wedding venues such as St Tewdrics House, St Pierre and Mounton Brook, which are about 10 minutes by car. It sleeps up to 7.
